Lime Plastering

Lime plastering is the traditional interior wall finish used in buildings that have solid rather than cavity walls. It is either applied to the brick or stone walls or for internal dividing walls and ceilings it is applied over laths (strips of wood nailed over stud work). If you have a listed building then you are likely to be required to use lime plaster when carrying out maintenance and repairs. Or if you have a solid wall property that has damp problems then lime plaster can often be the solution. The average victorian house tends to have areas of damp and bubbling plaster around window and door openings, air vents and other cold spots. The cold spots are where moisture in the air condenses most and modern gypsum plaster absorbs the moisture but doesn't release it so well. The more damp it gets the colder it gets and the worse the problem becomes. Lime plaster deals with moisture much better by absorbing and releasing it again. This creates a drier, warmer, and healthier home. There is also the option of adding insultion to your lime plaster, known as insulated lime plaster.
